Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (preferred) or RTF file format. This applies to tables as well. Tables should be editable in Word, and not presented as an image file.
  • When available, the URLs to access references online are provided, including those for open access versions of the reference. The URLs are ready to click (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca).
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • I certify that the attached submission is in compliance with the IRB or Privacy Board requirements at my institution.
  • All graphics include text caption with description of key visual elements.

Author Guidelines

Future submissions that report upon novel ideas or findings, especially research articles, will be given priority over surveys and scoping/systematic reviews of the literature. Submitted articles should have relevance to telerehabilitation (vs. telemedicine) and must follow 7th edition APA style for the reference list and in-text citations. 

Requirements

When you submit an article be sure to list all authors in the order of authorship, along with a complete institutional reference for each (e.g., institution, city, state, country) and their current e-mail address.

APA 7 must be followed both in-text and in the Reference List. Do not abbreviate journal names. Include doi addresses as available.

ITJ only accepts original papers on the topic of telerehabilitation. Authors must confirm via the submission process, that the contribution has not been previously published nor simultaneously submitted to another journal.

To submit a paper, you must be logged in. If you are not registered, please complete the registration page. Be sure to register as author (default is reader). Once you are registered as author and logged in, go to your User Home, select Author, and follow the instructions for submission.

Guidelines Upon Submission:

To ensure the integrity of a blind review, the submission must meet the following criteria:

  • Authors of the document have names deleted from the text.
  • With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file (see under File in Word), by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save.
  • With PDFs, the authors' names should also be removed from Document Properties found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu. PDFs are not preferred.
  • All submissions must include an abstract of no more than 150 words that highlights the scope, methodology, and conclusions of the paper.
  • Supply 3-5 key words in alpha order,
  • The author is responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder when using copyrighted materials such as photos, tables, quotations, etc.
  • All submissions are in compliance with the IRB or Privacy Board requirements at the author's institution. Supply this information within the paper.
  • All article submissions for peer review must adhere to the APA style. Please see: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th Edition).

Guidance for Accepted Articles 

Following acceptance of an article the corresponding author should plan to:

  1. Respond within 2 weeks to reviews that request revisions in the article.
  2. Verify:
  • References listed  as citations within the article are represented in the Reference List.
  • Articles listed in the Reference list are cited within the article.
  • With multiple authors, use the first author's name (e.g., Author et al.,)  instead of “colleagues” within the text. Example: Author et al. (year) described…..
  • Verify that the date of publication is consistent for both citations in text and in the reference list, and that author spelling is consistent.
  • Use quotes judiciously; include the page number.
  • Lists/seriation should follow APA 7th edition format (see APA Headings and Seriation)
  • References must be in APA 7th edition format (see OWL at Purdue APA Formatting and Style Guide).  Journal titles should NOT be abbreviated in the reference list, and capitalization of article titles should conform to APA 7th edition. Volume, issue number, page numbers (or article ID), and DOI numbers (in https://doi.org/xxx format) must be included for references, as available.
  • Supply a revised article:
    1. that includes tables and/or Appendices within the paper
    2. with graphics that DO NOT contain Figure # or Figure title embedded within the graphic
    3. with graphics that have sufficient contrast and font size to be easily read
    4. with a detailed description of a figure, graph, image, or photo (as a tracked comment) that will be used as an “alt tag” for a person with a disability that relies upon a screen reade
    5. The name and order of authors should be exactly the same (i.e., the same name including initials, and in the same order) as the authors listed in the “Submission” section of the website
    6.  Include at the top of the article (under the title), a list of authors and institutions that follows the format below:

                  Terminology considerations:

    1. Do not use the term “face-to-face” when referring to in-person services; please describe as “in-person services” instead.
    2. If referring to OT or PT through telehealth in the U.S., consider using “telehealth” vs. “telerehabilitation” to align with the term preferred by the respective professional associations (American Occupational Therapy Association and American Physical Therapy Association)
    3. If referring to remote delivery of speech therapy or audiology, consider using the term “telepractice” to align with the term preferred by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
    4. For interprofessional collaborations/manuscripts, authors should select the most appropriate term that best describes the service delivery.
    5. Use COVID-19 vs. Covid-19 capitalization based on Center for Disease Control formatting (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html)
